If youÌre a paramedic, chances are youÌve learned 12-leads on a LIFEPAK 11, externally paced with a LIFEPAK 10, quick-looked with a LIFEPAK 5 or hauled the original LIFEPAK 4 from a Cadillac ambulance. Now, the 15 is here. The first thing youÌll notice about theLIFEPAK 15fromPhysio-Control is the large handle, which makes it easy to pass around. The tough gray case will hide the scuff marks inevitable in EMS, and the monitor works fine after a two-and-a-half-foot drop. Other improvements include the adoption of CO and methemoglobin monitoring, a built-in metronome, and a sleeker, more secure design of the defibrillator cable. Plus, the recessed ECG lead receptacle makes it almost impossible to accidentally remove the leads by just pulling the cables. A pair of lithium-ion batteries powers the unit, so say goodbye to batteries that lose their charge while sitting on the shelf. And with all of these enhancements, the familiar user interface remains virtually the same, and it has a similar form and shape as the 12, so you won't have to refit your rig.
