PowerPoint Help for Instructors

We’ve all experienced the dreaded death by PowerPoint. If you are an EMS or fire instructor, you know that the mind of an emergency service worker will shut off and go to its happy place the second you start showing slides with too many statistics or charts. In his new book “Present It So They Get It,” author David Paradi, a presentation expert whom you may remember from past columns, explains that the problem is actually not boring presenters and presentations. The real problem is that the presentations are confusing, and ultimately, the audience doesn’t “get it.” In the book, Paradi explains why some presentations are confusing. You will learn to use Paradi’s RAPIDS Approach to create presentations that are focused, meet specific goals and properly explain the subject matter you are trying to convey to your audience. In the final section of the book, David teaches you how you can create effective slides using many of the features found in PowerPoint. VITALS

Disposable IV Fluid Warmer

The Thermal Angel (TA-200) IV Fluids Warmer is an in-line, disposable, battery-powered blood and IV infusion warming device. It is ideal for use in patients requiring normothermic fluid administration or for irrigation warming. An IV bag is connected to one end of the Thermal Angel, which is connected to a lightweight battery. IV fluid is warmed as it passes through the device. The warmed fluid exits the Thermal Angel through the disposable 9” extension set and is delivered to the patient. The TA-SEP (Standard Emergency Pack) includes four disposable IV Fluid Warmers (TA-200) and four disposable 9” extension sets, battery bag, battery, charger, power cable and emergency carry bag. The Thermal Angel can also be purchased as part of the TA-UEP (Ultra Emergency Pack) which includes a new lightweight 12-volt lithium-ion battery, boasts a quick recharge time and a realtime charge indicator, and is built for austere environments. Lightweight Tactical Pants

The new Stryke Pants with Flex-Tac is the latest tactical pant from 5.11 Tactical. Flex-Tec is a new proprietary, stretchable fabric that is lightweight and breathable. The pants are ready-to-wear out of the wash and are also soil and stain resistant. While wearing these pants during field testing, I accidentally spilled soda on them, and to my surprise the soda beaded up on the pants and wiped away without leaving a stain. The pants are designed with slanted, inset side-cargo pockets. There are also two off-seam side pockets, two accessory pockets and back pockets with secure flaps. These pants also have a self-adjusting waistband and reinforced knees. VITALS

Protection from Blunt Force & Stabs

Front-line EMS providers are subject to situations that can turn violent in seconds. We deal with patients who are intoxicated, high on drugs, hypoglycemic, mentally disturbed, angry at their situation or suffering altered mental status from head injury. Sometimes this results in patients acting out against EMS workers, causing life-threatening injury and even death. The Covert Stab Vest from PPSS Group can greatly reduce the risk of lifethreatening injury from blunt force trauma and stabbings from needles and other sharp-edged objects. The vest protects the spine, ribs and all vital organs. It’s ultra-thin and extremely lightweight at just 2.3 kilograms for the large model. The protection comes from a 5 mm body-molded polycarbonate plate that is easily removed prior to cleaning the machine-washable cover. The vest does not limit motion and is comfortable even in hot and humid conditions. These vests also come in other styles, including the Overt Stab Vest, High Visibility Overt Stab Vest, and Executive Stab Vest. VITALS
Color: Black or white
Sizes: XS–XXXL
Weight: 2.3 kg.
