BRIDGEPORT, Conn. -- The Easton (Conn.) Board of Selectmen has chosen a contractor to install sleeping quarters at the Emergency Medical Services headquarters on Sport Hill Road.
"We will have three bedrooms that will make our response time better during the night," Adele Okane, a member of the EMS commission, said Tuesday.
She said EMS volunteers who sign up for duty will have the option of sleeping over in the bedrooms that will be created on the ground floor of the headquarters.
Okane said the selectmen accepted the second lowest of three bids submitted because the lowest bidder did not supply adequate references about past work. That rejected bid was submitted by EMA Construction of Stratford, at a $22,699 price tag.
The job was awarded to Mediterranean Construction of Trumbull, which bid $26,923.
The selectmen said Mediterranean has demonstrated an ability to do projects for municipalities.
The board also rejected the top bid of $34,500 submitted by Asher Construction of Shelton.
Okane said the commission has money in its budget to build the bedrooms.
