WakeMed (N.C.) Health and Hospitals received a state-of-the-art, hospital-based Mobile Communications and Coordination Center (MC3) in July. The MC3 is equipped with an array of technology to close the communications gap that often exists in disaster operations. Designed like an office suite, the MC3 has wireless Internet, a conference room, a small kitchen and a restroom. The unitÌs phone system can support 254 phones, and each radio operates on multiple frequencies to enable statewide communication and direct connection with involved hospitals, flight programs, EMS agencies, fire agencies, law enforcement and the military. The MC3 is also equipped with five video surveillance cameras, 10 computers and four satellite systems. Capable of sustaining operations on generator power, the 40-foot vehicle can also pull power or broadband service from a nearby facility. For more information, visitwww.wakemed.org
