Workers Exposed to Chemical Smoke at Raytheon Fire

| Thursday, January 28, 2010

TUCSON, Ariz.

Two workers at the Raytheon Missile Systems plant in Tucson have been treated and released from a Tucson hospital after an incident involving hazardous chemicals.

Raytheon spokesman John Patterson says a worker was handling chemical waste material just before noon Wednesday when he saw smoke.

The company's fire department and hazardous material team and the Tucson Fire Department responded to the incident. City fire department spokesman Capt. Darin Wallentine says they received a call to assist with a fire in a chemical cabinet, but Patterson says it was just smoke.

Wallentine says two workers had "some level of exposure" and Tucson paramedics took them to a hospital for observation. Patterson says the two workers are expected to return to work Thursday morning.
