Ambulance Hits Several Deer; Paramedic Injured

COLUMBIA, Mo. -- A paramedic helping transport a patient to a hospital was injured early Monday when the ambulance he was in struck several deer on Highway 63 near Columbia Regional Airport in Missouri.

The 2005 Ford E-450 ambulance was traveling northbound at about 1 a.m. today on Highway 63, about a half-mile south of Angel Lane, when it struck the deer.

The paramedic, Matthew H. Parvin, 31, of Jamestown, was not wearing a seat belt, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. He was taken to University Hospital, where he was treated and released. The driver of the ambulance, Rexx A. Morrison, 42, of Eldon, was wearing a seat belt and was not injured.

The ambulance sustained minor damage, the highway patrol said.
