HUDSON, Wis. -- It’s been four years since Ste. Genevieve County Ambulance District (SGCAD) started using the Aladtec online employee scheduling system, EMS Manager. In 2008, SGCAD was a two crew service operating out of a single station. Since then they’ve grown to a 24 hour a day, 365 day a year combination service with 3 Advanced Life Support crews in-house 24 hours a day and a 4th ALS crew available during daytime hours.

Kendall Shrum recalls the headaches involved in maintaining an Excel spreadsheet as their employee schedule. “It was difficult managing vacation requests, shift trades and availability for our PRN (as-needed) members, since they were submitted on paper by hand. We’d often lose requests and availability and contacted too many people by phone to find coverage” says Shrum.

Despite the fear that change is difficult, Shrum remembers how easy the transition was. He remembers, “We had a monthly staff meeting and a quick review the following week. After the first month, we were completely online. Our staff picked up the system much faster than I expected. When our members realized how fast and easy the program was, they used it right away...Having each request time-stamped not only makes everything fair among the staff, it simplifies the process.”

These days Shrum and the rest of SGCAD focus on growing their service while EMS Manager keeps their employee scheduling pain-free. By consolidating their workforce management processes, SGCAD saves time and money. Says Shrum, “Scheduling time has been reduced by over half. Finding coverage for open shifts and the ability to track trade and vacation requests makes managing our members and schedule simple and easy.”

Ste. Genevieve County Ambulance District is one of over 20 public safety agencies within Missouri who use EMS Manager for online employee scheduling and workforce management. Located in Ste. Genevieve, Missouri, SGCAD began in 1981 as a volunteer advanced first-aid staff responding to calls from their own homes. Today, they have three houses serving the Ste. Genevieve County population of 17,500 and perform over 2000 runs annually.
