Providers Extricate & Treat Three Patients in Crash

From the October 2011 Issue | Saturday, October 1, 2011

Santa Barbara County (Calif.) Fire Department firefighter/paramedics monitor the cardiac activity of a patient they intubated and are bagging after a single-vehicle crash in Goleta. Paramedics also placed the patient on a backboard, moved him to a stretcher and transported him to a nearby hospital. Santa Barbara County firefighter/paramedics were assisted by American Medical Response personnel at the scene, which involved three patients who were in a sport-utility vehicle (SUV) when it struck a concrete wall. All three occupants inside the SUV were transported via ground ambulance with serious injuries. The driver was trapped inside the SUV and required extrication, and one of the passengers died after suffering traumatic cardiac arrest when paramedics arrived.
