Mayday
Firefighter/EMTs from the Greensboro (N.C.) Fire Department, along with a paramedic from Guilford County EMS, treat a firefighter during frigid conditions who was trapped in a structural collapse after responding to a four-alarm fire in January. The patient was treated for traumatic injuries. He received oxygen, IV therapy and narcotic pain control in transit to a nearby trauma center. His injuries included a tibia/fibula fracture and an ankle fracture. Two fire captains and another firefighter were also trapped, and all were rescued by their peers thanks to the department’s extensive rapid intervention crew training.
