Virginia Firefighter/EMT Dies from Injuries during Storm

Boones Mill Fire-EMS Department member was enroute to his station to respond.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Va. – A Virginia firefighters has died as a result of injuries he sustained during Friday’s storm.

WSLS-TV reports that Boones Mill Fire-EMS Department member John L. Echternach, Jr. was enroute to his firehouse to respond to storm damage calls when he was struck by a tree on Friday. He died on Monday as a result of the injuries he sustained.

Echternach, Jr., 54, had been a member of the Franklin County Department of Public Safety since June 2003.
