Two dead and five injured in collision.

| Monday, October 4, 2010

NEWBERRY, S.C. - Two women have died and five people were injured after their car collided with an ambulance in Newberry County.

Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Bryan McDougald told The State newspaper of Columbia that the women died Friday night. They were 22 and 23 years old and had addresses in Germany. Their names were withheld until family members could be notified.

McDougald says three people in the car and the ambulance's two medical workers were injured in the crash and taken to a local hospital.

The ambulance was traveling with its lights and siren on. McDougald says the driver of the car had pulled onto the shoulder of U.S. Highway 76 to let the ambulance pass, but returned to the road before it got around her.
