CENTERVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas State Police say five people were killed and three children were injured in a head-on collision in Yell County.

State police say the crash happened at about 4 p.m. Sunday on Arkansas Highway 7 near Centerville. Authorities say a car driven by 28-year-old Joey Nichols crossed the center line and struck a vehicle driven by 56-year-old Clara Meriweather.

Meriweather was pronounced dead at the scene, along with 24-year-old Jessica Nichols and 13-year-old Jessie Meriweather. Joey Nichols later died at a hospital, as did another passenger in Meriweather's car, 12-year-old Robert Meriweather.

Three other children who were riding in Meriweather's car were injured. Arkansas Children's Hospital said Monday morning the children were all in good condition at the hospital.
