INDIANAPOLIS – The St.Vincent Newborn & Pediatric Critical Care Transport program has received full accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems (CAMTS). St.Vincent Newborn & Pediatric Transport provides a highly skilled team consisting of a registered nurse, registered respiratory therapist, and EMT/operator to transport patients from all corners of Indiana and surrounding states to tertiary care at St.Vincent Women’s Hospital and Peyton Manning Children’s Hospital at St.Vincent.

“The CAMTS accreditation is a demonstration of our commitment to excellence,” said John R. Clark, manager of St.Vincent Critical Care Transport. “By attaining accreditation, we join an elite group that has proven their ability to deliver critical care transport services that meet the highest standards of quality patient care and safety.”

As one of just 158 CAMTS accredited programs in the world; St.Vincent Newborn & Pediatric Critical Care Transport is unique in that it is the only CAMTS-accredited program that is a ground ambulance-based pediatric and neonatal team. In Indiana, the St.Vincent team is one of only four transport services that are CAMTS-accredited including St.Vincent StatFlight, St. Mary’s LifeFlight and Air Evac Lifeteam.

CAMTS is a group of non-profit organizations dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical transport services. Twenty-one current member organizations are represented on the CAMTS Board of Directors. Dedicated to improving the quality and safety of medical transport services, CAMTS offers a program of voluntary evaluation of compliance with accreditation standards demonstrating the ability to deliver service of a specific quality. Its highest priorities are patient care and safety of the transport environment. To obtain accreditation, a medical transport service must be in substantial compliance with the organization’s accreditation standards.

The St.Vincent Newborn & Pediatric Critical Care Transport program is comprised of two teams. The Newborn Transport Team includes a neonatologist, neonatal nurse transport specialist, and neonatal respiratory specialist. The Pediatric Transport Team includes a pediatric hospitalist, pediatric nurse transport specialist, and a pediatric respiratory therapist. The critical care transport ambulances are equipped with state-of-the-art equipment to ensure the highest level of care is provided.
