HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (AP) - Two members of a volunteer rescue squad in South Carolina had to be rescued when their boat began taking on water off Fripp Island.
The Island Packet of Hilton Head reported on one was hurt when the members of the Fripp Island Sea Rescue were helping a Barnwell man and his 12-year-old son who were stranded on their 15-foot johnboat about a mile and a half offshore Sunday.
Search and rescue leader Paul Field says the water was choppy but the crew managed to get the man and his son on another boat. The squad then tried to tow in the johnboat when their 17-foot-Boston whaler began to take on water.
Field and other crew members used a larger boat to help the stranded volunteers. The johnboat was picked up by the local fishermen who had the father and son.
