MONROE, N.C. (AP) — A South Carolina ambulance driver has been charged in a wreck that killed a co-worker near a North Carolina hospital earlier this week.
Jonathan Cory Brown of Cheraw, S.C., was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle on Thursday.
Brown was driving the ambulance that pulled in front of a tractor trailer rig on U.S. 74 in Monroe late Tuesday morning.
Forty-three-year-old Belinda Rivers of Cheraw died in the wreck. She was buried Thursday.
The Sandhills Ambulance Service had just dropped off a patient at Carolinas Medical Center-Monroe when the wreck happened.
Brown was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte after the wreck. The extent of his injuries is unclear, but he is expected to recover. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt.
