Paralyzed Man Rescued From Burning Van

LaFountaine's girlfriend couldn't move him alone.

VADNAIS HEIGHTS, Minn. - A partially paralyzed man, trapped in a burning van, is rescued by a passer-by in Vadnais Heights.

Darrell LaFountaine says he was scared for his life when his van's engine caught fire Sunday and smoke began filling the air inside the vehicle. His girlfriend, Faith Lockwood, was driving the van, but couldn't move her 270-pound boyfriend to safety.

That's when Henry Anderson happened to drive by and see the burning van. Together Anderson and Lockwood helped LaFountaine out of the van, into his wheelchair and away from the burning van.

LaFountaine told the St. Paul Pioneer Press that he and Anderson are friends for life.
