More Than Two Dozen Hurt In Virginia Apartment Collapse

Most of the 27 injured suffered cuts and bruises.

HARRISONBURG, Va. - A Harrisonburg official says the city is investigating why the living room floor of a third-story apartment collapsed, injuring more than two dozen partygoers who fell three stories to the ground floor.

Wayne Lilly, a Harrisonburg building official, says he suspects overloading played a role. He was waiting Monday to hear from the company that manages the 12-unit, wood-frame building.

The accident occurred about 11:30 p.m. Friday. The Daily News-Record reports that most of the 27 injured suffered cuts and bruises. None of the injuries were life threatening.

Most of the building remains off limits. Lilly says he's waiting for managers to propose a plan for residents to retrieve belongings. Most are James Madison University students.
