NORMAN, Okla. - Rescuers working with their bare hands and chain saws freed a Norman family after a fierce storm blew a garage over their home's tornado shelter.
Storms that spawned numerous tornadoes throughout Oklahoma on Monday night apparently moved the garage from the family's southeast Norman home over the entrance of the shelter.
The family's home suffered only minor damage. When neighbors realized the family members weren't inside the home, they checked the shelter, which was covered with debris from the garage.
Norman police joined the neighbors in digging through the debris. Soon a young child emerged from the shelter, followed by a woman, a dog and a man, who was clutching a horseshoe.
