COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The bicyclist left hospitalized after being hit by a dump truck on the Ohio State University campus has been identified as an 18-year-old student.

Ohio State police said Thursday that James Daniel Hughes of South Point, Ohio, was hit while riding his bike near a construction site on the Columbus campus Wednesday afternoon. One witness has said he was riding on the sidewalk, and the truck driver didn't appear to realize what had happened.

University police are still investigating the incident.

Hughes was taken to Wexner Medical Center, but a hospital spokesman said Thursday there was no information about him available.

Deputy Chief Richard Morman of the Ohio State police says the driver was 71-year-old Isaac Hinton from Columbus.

Morman said he didn't know the extent of the student's injuries.
