JONESPORT, Maine — Some non-narcotic medications and electronics were stolen late Sunday or early Monday from a local ambulance facility, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Department.
The burglars appear to have targeted a nearby cafe as well, Sgt. Rich Rolfe of the sheriff’s department said Tuesday morning.
The burglary to the Moosabec Ambulance building was discovered Monday morning around 9 a.m., Rolfe said. Some electronics were stolen from the building and a box of drugs from an ambulance parked inside it, he said. Rolfe declined to specify what kind of electronics were taken, but said the drug box did not contain any narcotic medication such as Oxycontin or other painkillers. Such drugs are not stored in any place where they might be considered easy targets for thieves, he said.
“Whoever stole it did not get anything significant,” Rolfe said.
The adjacent Lighthouse Cafe also appears to have been burglarized around the same time, likely by the same people, the deputy said. He said an officer looking for evidence Monday morning in the apparent ambulance building burglary discovered a broken window in the back of the restaurant.
Rolfe said police do not yet have an estimate for the amount of monetary damage caused by the break-ins. He said police are not sure what, if anything, may have been taken from the cafe.
Washington County Sheriff’s Deputy Keith York is leading the investigation into the burglary, he said.
