WASHINGTON - If you want to get revved up after a string of rough seasons, you could buy an old ambulance. That's right. an ambulance. It was on the side of the road and Brian Korody thought "That's it."
His friends on the other hand, "I was like 'No, Brian. We're not doing it'," says Dan Moxley. "I thought he was joking at first 'til he showed up at the house with it," says Jeff Curtis.
No joke. Korody and his Redskin buddies have converted a 1992 ambulance into a "Fan-bulance"
They call it "the special operations tailgating unit."
"When we bought this it was all white with blue floors that smelled like medical waste," says Korody.
As for the people who once rode in the back of that ambulance, they, "don't like to think about that."
They think about other things. "We got our cutting board here to cut the limes. We have our microwave. We have our stereo, DVD player, CD player, our dartboard," says Korody.
The gas mileage is "three games on a tank."
Diesel mechanic Curtis keeps it on the road. The guys think the Skins are headed in the right direction this year. They've already started proving that with a win over the Giants. While we visited, a Giants fan, just passing by, mistook the ambulance for a food truck.
"Don't mess with my food just because I'm a New Yorker. What food? I thought you were cooking something here. You came for a hot dog? You tailgating?"
Maybe the best thing about the Fanbulance? You can just hose it down at the end of the night.
Plus, "If somebody gets sick in here, it won't be the first time somebody was sick in here," says Korody.
