Kenwood was a member of the Princeton First Aid and Rescue Squad's swift water rescue team. The team was dispatched on Sunday to investigate a submerged car that was believed to have an occupant inside. It was later determined that no one was in the car.

According to, Kenwood entered the water connected to another rescuer. The two realized the current was too strong and began to turn back when they fell.
