WILMINGTON, N.C. - Authorities say a Wilmington woman trying to rush her 1-year-old grandchild to the hospital died after she ran a red light and collided with another vehicle.
Police told multiple media outlets the child had been bitten by a dog and was bleeding profusely from the face around noon Sunday.
Authorities say the woman blew her car's horn as she approached a red light, but was hit by a van.
Police say the car then hit a utility pole, knocking down power lines and traffic signals.
The woman's name has not been released. Authorities say the child in is intensive care at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
Authorities say the three people in the van did not suffer serious injuries.
