LANSING, Mich. (AP) — State elections officials say opponents of Michigan's sweeping emergency manager law have collected enough signatures to put a repeal measure on November's ballot.
The finding outlined in the memo from elections staff to the State Board of Canvassers could put into limbo seven emergency managers statewide. The memo was obtained Wednesday by The Associated Press.
The board is to vote Thursday on whether the issue will go on the ballot. If it does, the law will be suspended immediately until the November election.
The decision would affect emergency mangers in three school systems and four communities. It's not expected to affect an agreement on finances reached last week between Detroit city and state officials.
Elections staff say opponents of the law collected about 40,000 more valid voter signatures than needed.
