ROCKLAND, Maine -- The city received a new ambulance Tuesday.

The vehicle has a 2012 Ford chassis manufactured by AEV and purchased from Professional Vehicle Corp. of Mexico, Maine.

The $148,500 vehicle replaces a 2003 ambulance that was traded in for the purchase, said Rockland Fire Chief Charles Jordan Jr.

The city tries to trade in emergency vehicles every 2Â 1/2 to three years, he said. The city has three ambulances, including the new one, that respond to 600 to 650 emergency calls each year.

The new ambulance is similar to the previous ones purchased by the department. It is equipped, among other items, with a five-point harness system that assures that if the ambulance is involved in a crash that the patient on the stretcher will be safe.
