Townsend had been ticketed for failure of caution

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) — A Mason City Fire Department ambulance driver who was ticketed in a collision that happened while rushing a patient to a hospital has been found not guilty of the infraction.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/T2rK4r) that 27-year-old Schuyler Townsend was found not guilty last week in Cerro Gordo County District Court.

Townsend had been ticketed for failure of caution of an emergency vehicle following the June 3 crash. Police say the ambulance approached the intersection while the light was red, slowed down and then continued through the light. Two firefighters in the ambulance and a passenger in the other vehicle were treated for minor injuries.

Magistrate Rolf Aronsen said Townsend was not speeding and had his lights and siren on at the time of the crash.
