ALEXANDRIA, Va. (WUSA) - Firefighters from across the nation will gather in Alexandria on Thursday Feb. 16 for the funeral of Alexandria paramedic Joshua Weissman.
Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell authorized both Alexandria and Arlington to fly flags at half-staff for Weissman.
The firefighters and paramedics of The Alexandria Fire Department will get to honor Weissman and won't have to return to work until 7 p.m. Friday. Other jurisdictions will staff the fire houses.
If you are traveling in the areas during the time of the memorial and funeral services on Wednesday and Thursday, you should expect delays. Traffic and parking near the Everly Wheatley Funeral Home at 1500 West Braddock Road is expected to be significantly affected Wednesday afternoon and evening starting at 4 p.m. More than 200 fire vehicles and more than 2,000 people are expected to come into Alexandria for the events.
Traffic is expected to be substantially impacted between 10 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Thursday as streets close for the funeral service. If you are not attend, please avoid these areas or be patient with delays.
