WATERLOO, Ind. - Authorities say four people were killed and an infant was injured when their SUV crashed into a highway median, veered down an embankment and landed upside down in the path of an oncoming freight train in northeastern Indiana.
The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department says the train pushed the car for about 2,000 feet before coming to a halt Sunday evening near the town of Waterloo, about 25 miles north of Fort Wayne.
The department said in a Monday statement that the four were pronounced dead at the scene and that the infant has been taken to a hospital with a broken leg and other injuries. Authorities have not released their identities.
The department says it is not clear what caused the crash on Interstate 69.
