SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Officials are honoring the first responders credited with saving the life of a woman whose van was struck by a Frontrunner commuter train in Kaysville.
The Utah health department's Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and Preparedness is celebrating first responders during a ceremony Wednesday morning at the state capitol.
They'll be giving special kudos to emergency crews who responded when the 34-year-old woman's van was struck while it was between crossing arms.
Crews used a special procedure to sedate the woman before putting a breathing tube down her throat. Health officials say she was critically injured and spent several weeks in the hospital, but survived.
Her two young daughters were also in the vehicle and had minor injuries.
