FDNY Unveils EMS Posters Showing Changed Lives

Posters are designed to raise awareness about the life-saving skills of FDNY EMS members

Fire Department City of New York | | Wednesday, May 11, 2011

Fire Commissioner Salvatore J. Cassano will join members of the FDNY Emergency Medical Service and two citizens - a 6-year-old girl and a 26-year-old man - who were helped by FDNY EMS on Wednesday, May 11 at 11 a.m. at FDNY Headquarters, 9 MetroTech Center, in Brooklyn to officially unveil this year's new citywide posters celebrating EMS Week 2011, which begins across the country on Sunday, May 15.

The theme of this year's FDNY-developed poster is "Offering Second Chances."  There are two versions, each highlighting the impact FDNY EMS had on people's lives.

One version features a young girl who was saved by an EMS Lieutenant while she was choking on some candy in 2006.  Last year she started kindergarten.

The other version features a man who, as a child, was treated by Paramedics when a car hit his bicycle in 1991.  Last year he graduated college.

The annual public service announcements - which are designed to raise awareness about the life-saving skills of FDNY EMS members - will be displayed in approximately 350 telephone kiosks donated by Van Wagner.
