FDNY EMS Instructors Joe Fortis and Gilbert Ramos, and EMT Fortis's son, EMT Joseph Fortis, Jr., (who currently works at Empress Ambulance Service, but plans to join the FDNY EMS Command), won the national Basic Life Support (BLS) EMS trophy at a competition on Nov. 26 in Nebraska City, Neb.
The team defeated 17 other BLS teams in their division.
While in the area, the team also escorted and opened the New World Trade Center wing at the Nebraska City Fire Department's Museum.
