EMTs on Panel for New Jersey Reality Tour

| Thursday, September 27, 2012

Wayne, NJ, September 27, 2012 --(PR.com)-- With the alarming rise in substance abuse among teens today, parents, educators, and friends cannot stress enough the importance of staying above the influence of drugs and alcohol.

Perhaps one of the most realistic depictions of the consequences of using is Reality Tour. On Wednesday, October 17th at 7PM the Wayne Alliance will host the third annual Reality Tour program, which is geared toward middle school students and their parents.

During this production, students are exposed to a theatrical presentation of the dangerous consequences of drug and alcohol abuse. The audience witnesses the emotions, turmoil, and grief caused by a family member choosing to use drugs.

Following the performance is a question and answer panel including recovering addicts, law enforcement, and Emergency Medical Technicians.

While the performance encourages students to not give into peer pressure to do what's "cool," the second segment targets parents, who play a vital role in the prevention of substance abuse.

The Reality Tour is open to the public. However, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students are highly encouraged to attend with their parents. As a teen's single greatest influence when it comes to drug and alcohol use, it is especially important that parents discuss these issues with their children as their teen's bodies and minds are not yet completely developed.

The program is made possible by funds from the Governor's Council on Alcoholism and Drug Abuse (GCADA) granted to the Wayne Alliance. The Alliance program operates in all 21 New Jersey counties. It was created to provide grassroots volunteers an opportunity to make direct and effective change within their communities by producing localized solutions to individual municipality's problems with substance abuse.

The Wayne Alliance meets on the third Wednesday of each month in the Town Hall's Health Department. The next meeting will also be on October 17th at noon. Volunteers need not attend the meetings in order to be a part of the Alliance.
