RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. - KESQ.com reports that Dr. Max Henry Weil, known by many as "The Father of Critical Care Medicine" died at his Rancho Mirage home on Friday of an undisclosed illness.
According to KESQ Dr. Weil's medical philosophy stressed the importance of minute-to-minute care by highly trained emergency room and specialty care staff. Known for developing the concept of cardiopulmonary resuscitation, Dr. Weil's contributions and his non-profit foundation were recognized by Sen. Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) and Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) for his commitment to advance the practice of medicine.
Dr. Weil founded the Weil Institute of Critical Care Medicine, an international center for education and research in Rancho Mirage. The institute conducted research into circulatory shock, heart failure, acute lung failure and infections.
A memorial service is planned for October 29, 2011.
