NEW YORK - USA Network says it is working with "Rescue Me" creators Denis Leary and Jim Serpico on an Americanized version of the British series "Sirens."

Leary will co-write with Bob Fisher the pilot for a proposed 30-minute comedy series about the lives and experiences of young paramedics. Both will executive produce the series along with Serpico and Hal Vogel and David Aukin of Daybreak Pictures.

The announcement was made Monday by Bill McGoldrick, senior vice president of USA's original scripted programming.

"We are still finding our way in the genre but we know for certain that our half-hours will be written and produced by creators with a specific and unique point of view," McGoldrick said in a statement. "Since they formed [the production company] Apostle, Denis and Jim have brought those two qualities to everything they've done."

The six-part U.K. series "Sirens" was created by Brian Fillis and inspired by EMT paramedic Tom Reynolds' book, "Blood, Sweat and Tea."
