TULLY, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say Interstate 81 is closed in both directions after a pileup involving as many as 20 vehicles just south of Syracuse.

State police say the accident occurred during a lake-effect snow storm Friday morning in I-81's northbound lanes in the Onondaga County town of Tully, on the Cortland County line 10 miles south of Syracuse. Troopers now say both the northbound and southbound lanes are closed.

Police say several ambulances have been dispatched to the scene and but details on injuries aren't immediately available. Troopers are arriving at the scene. No other information is available.

Lake-effect snow and high winds have been hitting central New York since Thursday, with more than 20 inches of snow reported in some areas north of Syracuse.
