A play date with a bouncy castle ended abruptly Monday afternoon in an Upstate New York town, after the inflatable toy broke free of its moorings, tossing three young children playing inside it violently to the ground.

According to The Post-Star, the daily newspaper for the village of South Glen Falls, N.Y., two boys aged 5 and 6, suffered serious injuries, and a 10-year-old girl suffered minor scrapes and bruises after the inflatable toy was swept away by a strong gust of wind.

According to the South Glen Falls Police Department, the two young boys fell out of the castle when it was more than six metres above the ground.

A witness told the paper that one of the boys was thrown more than 12 metres onto the pavement, while the other was thrown about six metres onto the back of a car.

A neighbour told the paper the younger boy suffered two broken arms and facial injuries, while the older boy suffered a serious head injury.

According to witnesses, after the children fell, the bouncy castle floated more than 15 metres into the air over a stretch of woods.

It later landed in a field behind a nearby middle school, where it was recovered by police.

Andre Delvaux, chief operating officer for Moreau Emergency Squad, told the Starthe two boys were transported to a nearby landing zone before they were airlifted to Albany Medical Centre.

He said the girl's injuries didn't require treatment by paramedics.

The condition of the two boys was not known Tuesday, according to police.

A witness caught the dramatic scene with a camera as the bouncy castle floated high into the sky.
