The Giants fan who was beaten and critically injured outside Dodger Stadium on March 31 remains in a coma but has improved enough to be flown to a San Francisco hospital, a medical center spokeswoman in Los Angeles said Friday.
Bryan Stow, a 42-year-old paramedic from Santa Cruz, is still in critical condition but has stabilized enough to be moved, said Rosa Saca, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center.
She said he would be transferred to San Francisco General Hospital as early as Monday morning.
Stow's family greeted the news with relief.
"The day has finally come! Bryan is now stable enough to bring home up north," the family said on its website, www.support4bryanstow.com. "This time is so bittersweet. ... We are happy we get to bring Bryan home."
Stow was taunted, then beaten and kicked by two men wearing Dodgers regalia in the stadium parking lot after the opening game of the season, police said. They are still looking for his attackers.
Stow underwent surgery to remove part of his skull and then was kept unconscious by doctors, who have recently reduced the coma-inducing drugs.
Stow's family said Friday he has been "responsive to stimulation, and while he doesn't do it on command, his eyes have been opening."
