ST. GEORGE, Utah (St. George Spectrum) — Accusations are coming fast from both sides in a contentious battle over which ambulance company could best serve the St. George area.

In a series of hearings taking place this week in St. George, Dixie Ambulance, the provider of local ambulance services for more than 30 years, is defending its record against Gold Cross Ambulance, a Salt Lake City-based company that contends it can offer faster, more efficient emergency medical care to the community.

At the week’s conclusion, a third party serving as a presiding officer is set to make a recommendation to the state Bureau of Emergency Medical Services on which company to choose.
