18 students were evaluated at a nearby firehouse

WASHINGTON (WUSA) - A Metro bus crash on southbound I-395 in the District has sent some passengers to the hospital and snarled traffic during Tuesday morning's rush hour.

DC Fire and EMS officials tell 9NEWS NOW a bus loaded with students collided with a car on southbound I-395 near Maine Avenue in Southwest DC around 7:30 a.m. Pete Piringer, spokesperson for DC Fire and EMS, says two students along with the two adult occupants of the car were transported to a local hospital for check-up. Piringer says crews evaluated an additional 18 students at a nearby firehouse. None of the injuries are considered to be serious.

According to Piringer, every student was taken to a local hospital since they did not have an adult supervisor on board the bus.

Several lanes of I-395 are blocked and commuters should expect delays in the area.

DC Police are investigating the incident.
