More Blizzard Woes in Dakotas

Hailstorm in Texas

| Tuesday, March 31, 2009

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) -- A huge weather system stretching from Canada to the Gulf of Mexico has piled more deep snow on parts of the Dakotas and battered Texas with damaging hail.

The second major storm in a week had dumped more than a foot of snow on sections of South Dakota.

The state closed a large stretch of Interstate 90 across the south-central part of the state Tuesday and a small portion of I-90 also remained closed in Wyoming.

In North Dakota, 17 inches of new snow has fallen in Bismarck. That puts the central North Dakota city just an inch shy of a season record.

The storm's stiff wind threatened to create high waves on the Red River that could batter levees holding back water at Fargo, N.D.

To the south, hail damaged roofs and cars in suburbs of Dallas.
