Tucson Woman Arrested, Gave 2 Kids Insulin to Stop Crying

| Thursday, December 24, 2009

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities say a Cochise County woman is in custody after she admitted to injecting two children with insulin to keep them from crying.

The Cochise County Sheriff's Office says 41-year-old Lisa Marie White is being held on $1 million bond after being jailed on charges of attempted first degree murder.

The woman lives in the same home as the babies and their parents, but is not a relative.

Authorities say White was arrested Tuesday after admitting that she injected a 2-month-old child with a small amount of her own insulin.

The baby was treated at a Willcox hospital earlier this month for low blood sugar and respiratory issues.

Doctors contacted Tucson police after they saw that the baby was suffering from extremely high insulin levels that could not have occurred naturally.

The medical staff also informed police of a similar incident this month with the baby's 18-month-old sister.
