Few in the EMS and national media reported on the tremendous EMS triage, treatment, decontamination and emotional support rendered on the piers across the Hudson River in New Jersey after being evacuated from Manhattan by a flotilla of police, Coast Guard, pleasure craft and ferry boats. But JEMS has.
A.J. Heightman, MPA, EMT-P, traveled to New Jersey, met with key responders, visited the site of their operations on 9/11 and obtained their personal stories. You will be amazed at their work, particularly during the first hour after the collapse of the towers when manpower and resources were in short supply, to manage thousands of people the world never heard about. You will also be impressed with the programs, training and resources put into place in New Jersey since 9/11.
