Omaha Pays Ambulance Crash Victims $470,000

| Friday, March 6, 2009

OMAHA, Neb. -- The city of Omaha has agreed to pay $470,000 to two Iowa residents injured in a crash with a city ambulance.

The Omaha City Council approved the payment this week to Barbara Remmen and Daniel Ellett of Carter Lake, Iowa, to settle lawsuits they filed after the crash. The ambulance was responding to an emergency call when it crashed into the compact car carrying Remmen and Ellett in November 2005.

The Omaha City Attorney's office says the payout ranks among the largest in recent years. Remmen and Ellett had initially sought about $900,000 from the city.

An attorney for the couple says they had to quit their jobs because of their injuries and that both are paying off about $100,000 in medical bills from the crash, while still need more treatment.
