Weather System Fixed Near Medevac Crash Site

| Tuesday, October 13, 2009

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - A county airport weather system has been repaired after it was not working when a medical helicopter crashed in South Carolina, killing three crew members.

The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported a Georgetown County official said Monday the unit has been repaired.

The helicopter was flying from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston back to Conway on Sept. 25 when it diverted to the Georgetown County Airport because of heavy rain.

That system had been out of service since an Aug. 2 lightning strike. Officials say it was working late last week. The system is owned by the state Aeronautics Division. Pilots had been sent a notice that the system was not working.

A National Transportation Safety Board final report on the crash is not expected until next year.
