PAWCATUCK, Conn. - For nearly five decades, residents in Pawcatuck paid a fee to have an ambulance service in neighboring Rhode Island respond to their calls.
The ambulance service was provided through a subscription, but now the state of Connecticut has told them it s illegal. Pawcatuck residents have paid an annual $35 fee to the Westerly Rhode Island Ambulance Service to cover them above whatever their insurance doesn t pay.
Last spring, the Connecticut Insurance Department learned of the subscription policy and stopped it.
