Milwaukee Medics Caught in Fight in back of Ambulance

Linda Spice | | Thursday, July 16, 2009

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee Fire Department paramedics treating a child after an auto crash on Wednesday also had to referee a fight among four adults who had entered their medical unit. The group argued and started throwing punches inside.

Emergency crews had responded to the crash about 5:41 p.m. near N. 26th St. and W. Medford Ave., where a young boy was pinned in a car. He was extricated from the vehicle and taken to the medical unit for treatment.

"I don't know if it was family but a group of four individuals came into the back of the med unit. They started arguing with each other. The next thing you know fists are flying. To put six people there and let three of them start fighting, it's not a real good situation," said First Battalion Chief Paul Conway. "They didn't attack our people but they did put our people in danger. They were in the middle of a brawl."

None of the firefighters were injured but Conway noted that they intervened in the fight to protect the patient.
