Lauderdale County EMS Adding Ambulance Coverage

TOM SMITH | | Wednesday, September 23, 2009

LAUDERDALE COUNTY - Waterloo fire Chief Ted Kavich said in times of medical emergencies, minutes and seconds can mean the difference between life and death.

That's why he's excited about the possibility of Lauderdale EMS placing an ambulance in the western part of the county.

"It would be fantastic for everyone in that area of the county," Kavich said.

"There are areas in the far western part of the county that it's quicker to go to Tennessee and get to them than to go from Waterloo.

"I'd be tickled to death to have an ambulance in the west end of the county."

Lauderdale EMS Director Bruce Carson said he and other emergency officials took a close look at expanding to provide better service.

"We want to look at how having an ambulance stationed around the Central community could decrease response times on the west end of the county," Carson said.

He said it takes on average 28 minutes for an ambulance to go from the Florence station on Dr. Hicks Boulevard to Waterloo.
