CUYAHOGA COUNTY, Ohio -- A Cuyahoga County jury cleared a veteran Emergency Medical Service paramedic on Wednesday of charges of sexual battery and gross sexual imposition.

Glenn Burks, 45, was accused of fondling two patients in ambulances in 2008.

"It's awesome. I'm praising God I'm vindicated," Burks said Wednesday.

He said the legal battle has been hard on him.

"It was a hard-fought battle," said Anthony Jordan, one of Burks' defense attorneys. "The system worked the way it should."

Burks was suspended from his job without pay after his October 2008 arrest while his case was pending. He and his attorneys said that today, they would confront Cleveland officials about reinstating him. He may also be due back pay.

The accusations of wrongdoing come from two different men.

One man was undergoing drug treatment at a residential facility in Tremont on Oct. 1, 2008, when he was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center. The 34-year-old man said that after he was strapped to a stretcher, Burks fondled his genitals.

The other accusation came from a homeless man. The 48-year-old man said in May 2008 that Burks performed oral sex on him in an ambulance.

Burks was defended by his partner at the time who said that she was there and never saw Burks do anything wrong.

Plain Dealer reporter Mark Puente contributed to this story.
