The ambulance service has been accused of covering up the theft of ''hundreds'' of vials of morphine by a former Central Coast paramedic as another officer is due to face court next month charged with stealing a highly addictive drug from Caringbah Ambulance Station.
The Herald can reveal that a retired paramedic, Stephen Hogeveen, wrote to members of a parliamentary committee inquiring into the ambulance service last year alleging that an officer ''had stolen hundreds of ampoules of morphine from a number of stations, for his personal use, to satisfy his drug habit'' in 2003.
