Migraines? Don t let fame go to your head

Theo Wargo | | Tuesday, June 12, 2007

It s not surprising that famous people also endure a condition that strikes roughly 18% of North American women and 6% of men at some point in their life. But over the past decade or so, migraines have seen more than their share of celebrity confession, product endorsement and advice.

If you re a migraine sufferer, you re probably thankful for the publicity. If Macpherson can miss a shoot for her head pain, after all, your boss might be more understanding. But before taking any celebrity s advice for your own migraine pain, heed warning: Migraines are a very personal disease which varies greatly from one person to another, says Michael John Coleman, executive board officer for Migraine Awareness Group: A National Understanding for Migraineurs (MAGNUM), a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing public and government awareness to migraines. So what works for a celebrity may or may not work for you.
